Scholarship Prep believes in developing leaders from within and encourages all employees to become stronger leaders by fully engaging in professional learning opportunities that arise. We are proud of our four team members who have done just that through graduate-level reading intervention coursework offered through the San Diego County Office of Education and St. Mary’s College.

This free program features two semesters of virtual postgraduate study to learn comprehensive literacy strategies to support reading intervention. Scholarship Prep’s Andrea Hernandez (SP Oceanside Middle School Teacher), Allison Riordan (SP Oceanside 3rd Grade Teacher), Celeste Scansen (SP Oceanside 3rd Grade Teacher), and Cynthia Vargas (SP South Bay Education Specialist) have each seized this opportunity to become certificated Reading Recovery experts and as a pipeline to literacy intervention coaching on campus.

Our colleagues have shared that they have already begun implementing the foundational skills, assessment strategies, and interventions in everyday lessons to support students in becoming successful readers. They also look forward to sharing what they have learned with the goal of helping students close their academic gaps, guide our Scholars across all grade levels and subjects, and improve reading confidence, fluency, and comprehension.
